As part of the match race school, the Nautical Club of Greece, wishing to further help cultivate this form of racing in our country, operates a specialized section every weekend which trains from 11:00 to 16:00 with pairs of Yngling boats. These are 3-seater fixed keel boats with a Mainsail, Jib and Symmetrical Balloon, boats that were part of the women’s Olympic fixed keel category up until the Beijing Olympics and have been widely used for match races worldwide.
The purpose of these intensive courses is to prepare teams that wish to compete in high-level Match Race competitions in Greece and abroad.
Only close trios that have emerged from the training process of the above groups can participate in this training format.
The school includes theoretical and practical courses, in a time ratio of approximately 40/60.
Theoretical courses include the following:
>Introduction to Match Racing
>Regulations (RRS)
>Starts and tactics
>Regular Horsa
>Tactical Prima
>Sailing Maneuvers
>Execution of Sentences
>Revocation of Sentences
>Communication on Board
>Boat Preparation for Race
>Speed and Trimming
>Team Expedition Preparation
>Team Organization
>Crew Roles
The above will be applied in the water with exercises, simulations of specific cases and competitions.
Each training day begins with boat preparation, theory, exercises in the water and finally an overview of the day with a video showing of the exercises, questions and discussion.
Match Racing offers great excitement to both athletes and spectators, requires absolute teamwork, speed of thought and reaction, excellent knowledge of the rules, impeccable boat handling, and is a rapidly emerging type of competitive sailing worldwide.
